Gefreiter Schubert, one of the defenders of Fortress Glogau, was recommended for the Knight’s Cross for the reasons described in the following document. The note on the document indicates it may or may not be an official award recommendation…

“As was first reported by the commander of Fortress Glogau, Gefreiter Schubert was awarded the Iron Cross First & Second Class following his destruction of 4 tanks and 1 assault gun. Simultaneously promoted to Unteroffizier. The award of the Knight’s Cross is nonetheless endorsed, as the destruction of 5 enemy AFVs is an outstanding achievement and the award of the Knight’s Cross would be a great inspiration for the defenders of Fortress Glogau.”
