Biography

Antonie Spies, living in Elst, Utrecht, was born on June 16th, 1888 as son to Jan Hendrik Spies (worker, August 24th, 1865, Rheden - February 2nd, 1945, Ermelo) and Elisabeth Spies-van Ingen (February 13th, 1867, Lienden - October 31st, 1918, Renkum). He married Jannetje van Haarlem (November 2nd, 1888, Amerongen - February 13th, 1982, Elst) in Amerongen on April 21st, 1910. Antonie was a worker for his profession.

According to the Historical Community Oud Veenendaal, the deaf Antonie Spies was thrown into a cellar by SS men and was injured to his head as a result of that. Het died on March 7th, 1945 in the emergency hospital, Zandstraat 2, Veenendaal, from the consequences of a skull base fracture.

At first he was buried at the Common Cemetery Munnikenweg in Amerongen but was re buried in Elst, Utrecht on September 18th, 1945.
