Citation:
"Captain LEVINGS, an Australian surgeon, was taken prisoner in North Africa in April, 1941, during operations against the enemy. From April till August, 1941 together with the assistance of Major Binns and other members of the 2/8 Fd. Amb. ths officer worked self-sacrificingly under most difficult and dangerous conditions at all hours of the day and night. Notwithstanding the fact that there was no X ray equipment, an acute shortage of medical supplies, and little co-operation was received from the Italians, this officer performed many intricate operations and was undoubtedly responsible for saving many British lives. For his outstanding services to his felow men and his great dovotion to duty, it is recommended that he be made an Oficer of the Order of the British Empire."
