Suhren joined the Nazi Party in 1928 and joined the Sturmabteilung at the same time. He transferred to the SS in October 1931, initially as a volunteer before going full-time in 1934.

In 1942 he was Lagerführer (deputy commander) in the KZ-Sachsenhausen. He was later commander of the KZ-Ravensbrück women's camp.

Suhren was later on trial for his time as commander of KZ-Ravensbrück and was hanged on June 12, 1950.
