Biography

Johan van Mierlo was a police officer in the area of Roermond and served as an air raid consultant for the Dutch military air force from 1938 onwards. Also he worked as air raid shelter manager (LBD) and was assistant of the Police Commissioner in Breda. Besides that Johan van Mierlo was involved in the resistance. He delivered confiscated weapons to the resistance and helped escapees and evaders. In 1943 he was arrested and sentenced to death. However he managed to ecape Maastricht prison and reunited himself with the resistence. He kept operating until the end of the war.

Johan David Alexander van Mierlo passed away on August 11th, 1989 and was buried at the Zuylen cemetery in Breda (Perk 25b-228 nr 314)
