Biography

Circumstances of Death: Propeller Accident. On 1 August 1943, Hole was working with another airman, Leading Aircraftman (LAC) Edred Frederick Day, servicenumber 1442960 (RAFVR), on the engine of Mitchell FK180 at RAF Nassau (Oakes Field) at 16:00 hours when the carburettor caught fire. Moving away from the blaze they were both struck by the Airscrew and killed.

B-25 Mitchell, serial FK180 (US serialno, 40-2327, delivered to the RAF. Damaged beyond repair Oct 15, 1943) Equivalent to B-25B. Intended for use by No. 2 O.T.U. at Pennfield Ridge, NB. Delivered to Pennfield Ridge on 30 June 1942, and placed in storage pending formation of No. 2 OTU. Returned to Dorval, a suburb of Montreai in Quebec province, Canada, on 22 July 1942, after decision to not proceed with No. 2 OTU. Ownership returned to RAF at request of British Aircraft Commission, with the concurrance of the UK Air Liaison Mission. Later used by RAF OTU. No. 111 Operational Training Unit in the Bahamas.
