Biography

Harold was born on October 9 1918 in Trenton Ontario, the son of Arthur Healey (English) and Nellie Healey nee Wilson (Scottish and deceased due to puerperal in 1918) of Ottawa. His aunt was Kate Birnie of Ottawa.

He was a civil service clerk and member of the United Church. His sports were skating, skiing, swimming and softball. His hobbies were drawing (mechanical) and sketching.

He served the Non-Permanent Active Militia Canada from June 26 1940 till February 11 1941 and he enlisted on May 14 1941 the RCAF then in Ottawa and he went thereafter on May 12 1942 overseas to the UK.

Harold was killed in action on Friday April 9 1943 age 24 due to a crash at the Kanaaldijk in Jisp North Holland before or after an attack on Duisburg in Germany. His other fallen RAF crew members were Sgt William L. Whitehouse in grave 69-C-3 and Sgt Denis E. Whitaker age 22 in grave 69-C- 1. His fallen RAF Volunteer Reserve crew members were F/Sgt Arthur R. Lewis age 28 in grave 69-C-3, Sgt Roy Bishop age 23 in grave 69-C-3, Sgt Ronald E.A. Dampier age 23 in grave 69-C-3 and F/Sgt Cornelius W. Kleynhans (Rhodesia) age 24 in grave 69-C-2.

The names or the 7 fallen crew members are at a monument in Jisp.

He served with the 207 (R.A.F.) Sqdn Royal Canadian Air Force.
