Second World War (1939-1945)
Rank:
Temporary Captain
Unit:
Force 136, Special Operations Executive (SOE), British Government
Awarded on:
January 4th, 1946
Citation:
"Major Sime was second in command of a Party consisting of four Officers and twelve Other ranks, which was infiltrated by Submarine into South East Malaya in September 1944. The Submarine made a blind landing on the Coast which was extremely hazardous owing to the uncertainty of the reception arrangements made for the Party and the difficulty of landing during the Monsoon.
Due to the initiative and leadership of Major Sime the landing was a complete success.
On the 15th January 1945 the Leader of the Party was killed during operations and Major Sime took over the Command.
The party subsequently remained in enemy territory for eight months and the skill, courage and resourcefulness of this Officer contributed in no mean degree to the success of the operation, which made possible a supply of vital intelligence to the Force under the most trying conditions both hazardous and climatic.
He is recommended for the immediate award of the Military Cross."
