Period:
Second World War (1939-1945)
Rank:
Lieutenant
Unit:
F Section, Special Operations Executive (SOE), British Government
Awarded on:
November 15th, 1945
Citation:
"This officer worked with a resistance group in south-western France in 1942. He was arrested at the ened of that year, and imprisoned at Villeneuve-sur-Lot. Having escaped in January 1944 he came to England via Spain, and volunteered for further work in France as organiser of a new circuit in the Nancy-Metz area.

Although the contacts he had been given to start his group proved unreliable and he narrowly escaped arrest soon after his arrival, Woerther established a small but efficient circuit with groups at Maxeville, Pont a Mousson and at Limey.
These groups carried out effective attacks on railways and tele-communications in the Pont a Mousson area, and a number of ambushes of German road convoys. Woerther played a distinguished and courageous part in these operations.

It is recommended that this officer be awarded the Military Cross."
