Biography

Soldier, 5th Company Anti-Aircraft machine guns (5 C.Lu.Mitr.)

A number of anti-aircraft guns were stationed at Huize Djoerang (Uiterdijk 62, 4011 EW Zoelen), as support for the Waal-Linge Defense Line.
On 11 May, the post fired on 7 Messerschmitts of the type BF-109. One of these aircraft attacked the post, killing Jocabus and J.A. van Nieuwenhuijzen. A third soldier was wounded but the plane was shot down and crashed across the river Linge on farmland belonging to the Hasselman family. The German pilot survived the crash and was captured and remained a prisoner of war for the duration of the war.

The killed soldiers were buried the same day in Zoelen.
