Biography

John was born on August 11, 1920 in Reston, Manitoba, the son of James Forman and Helen Forman nee Riely (deceased) and both Scottish of Reston.

He was a labourer and member of the Church of England. His hobbies were target shooting and building model aircraft and his sports were shooting, skating, skiing, snow shoeing, hockey and baseball.

He enlisted on November 21, 1940 in Winnipeg and he went thereafter on October 22 1941 overseas to the UK.

John was killed in action on Tuesday October 6 1942 age 22 due to a crash near Slagharen (municipality Hardenberg) before or after an attack on Osnabrück in Germany. The other fallen RAF Volunteer Reserve crew members were: Sgt John Forbes age 21, in grave A 12, Sgt Walter J. Howes in grave A 14, Sgt Georges W. Rhodes age 20 in grave A 13 and Sgt Geoffrey Slater age 22 in grave A 15.

His name is mentioned together with the other crew members at a remembrance stone in Hardenberg.

He served with the 75 (R.A.F.) Sqdn Royal Canadian Air Force.
