"For valuable services as OC NZ Troops NETHERLANDS EAST INDIES Hospital Ship ORANJE.
In the war of 1914-1919 he served as Surgeon Liet Royal Navy, and on the outbreak of the present war volunteered for service in any capacity. Was commissioned as Maj NZMC in 2 NZEF on 14 Jun 1940, embarked for overseas in Aug 40, and served at 2 NZ Gen Hosp as anaesthetist. This officer was appointed SMO Maadi Camp in Feb 42 and OC 23 Fd Amb in Mar 43. As OC NZ Troops ORANJE since Sep 43 and later as OC British Troops, Lt Col ANSON has maintained a high standard of efficiency and organization, which, combined with his excellent co-operation with Netherlands, British and Australian staffs, has assisted in a great measure towards the excellent service rendered by the ORANJE in the care and comfort of returning invalids."
