"Signaller II Lovie is a wireless operator who joined Transport Command in January 1947, being engaged on scheduled flights to Europe. His work in the air has always been of a very high standard and executed in a cheerful and efficient manner. In June 1948, he was one of the first aircrew to be attached to the British Air Force of Occupation for the Berlin air lift, first flying from Wunsdorf and then from Fassberg and Lubeck. He has completed 110 sorties on this task up to date. This flying has been carried out under all conditions of weather, both by day and by night. Signaller II Lovie has displayed excellent crew cooperation and his first class work has ensured the safety of the flights. Throughout the operation he has maintained a consistently high standard of skill, enthusiasm and concentration on his task, displaying the most praiseworthy cheerfulness and determination which have encouraged the other members of his crew and the other crews of his squadron. The calm, competent manner in which he has carried out his duties on a number of operations while flying in bad weather are proof of his steadfast courage."
