"Though both gentlemen as British subjects were themselves civil internees in a Bangkok camp all through the period of the Japanese occupation of Thailand, they found a way to organize through a chain of intermediaries the well known system of aid to the prisoners of war camps on the Siam-Burma railway, in which were many Netherlanders.
Members of this organization collected money and purchased medicine and food which meant not only relief but often life to many of these prisoners of war.
Not less than over three hunderd thousand bahts was received in grants and loans and entirely spent in help.
That this organization could function until the end is apart from the devotion of all the members, to a large extend due to the courage as well as the organizing talents of both Mr. Heath and Mr. Hempson."
