US Colonel Thomas W. Sweeny Headquarters Marker

On this location was the headquarters of US Colonel Thomas W. Sweeny, involved in the Battle of Shiloh.
The Battle of Shiloh was fought on 6 and 7 April 1862 by Union and Confederate forces during the American Civil War. The battle was one of the largest battles of the entire war and involved over 100,000 soldiers. The battle resulted in a Union victory.
In the battle, in total about 3,500 men were killed and 16,000 wounded. About 4,000 soldiers were missing or captured. The losses involving dead and wounded were about equal on both sides.
