Colonel Everett Peabody Monument

This memorial in the Shiloh National Military Park commemorates Colonel Everett Peabody (1st Brigade, 6th Division, Army of the Tennessee), killed on 6 April 1862 on this location in the Battle of Shiloh.
The Battle of Shiloh was fought on 6 and 7 April 1862 by Union and Confederate forces during the American Civil War. The battle was one of the largest battles of the entire war and involved over 100,000 soldiers. The battle resulted in a Union victory.
In the battle, in total about 3,500 men were killed, 16,000 wounded and 4,000 missing or captured. The losses involving dead and wounded were about equal on both sides.
