Memorial Echoes of Valour

This memorial commemorates the naval disaster of 18 February 1942. In a heavy storm the American destroyer USS Truxtun (DD-229) was wrecked, at Chambers Cove, with 110 fatalities. During the same storm, the American armed trawler USS Pollux (AKS-2) was also grounded, Lawn Point off St. Lawrence Harbor, with 83 casualties. The American destroyer USS Wilkes (DD-441) was also grounded but had no casualties.
