The Animal Memorial

The Animal Memorial is a memorial in the Rue du Bois in Couin. It commemorates the animals which died in the First and Second World War.

The committee of "Arras & Environs" of the Souvenir Français had the project to commemorate the animals by a memorial in Couin. The plaque-design was an idea of mr. Bruno Picot. The plaques are fixed on the wall with a text from the First World War: "Water Carts - Bottles Filler - <- 100 yards". The central plaque has the following text in English and French.

"To the innumerable God's creatures that suffered and perished in the last Wars. With love, faith and loyality, they ended much and died for us. May all remember them with gratitude and in the future commerate their sufferings and death by showing kindness to the living animals"

The memorial was build by mr. Yves Damez, owner of the wall and member of the Souvenir Français. It was inaugurated on 10 Juli 2004.
