Memorial French Soldiers Bern

This memorial in the Bremgartenfriedhof commemorates interned French soldiers who died in 1871. World War I and World War II are also mentioned on the memorial.

In the winter of 1871, the French army (Armée de l'est) of General Bourbaki crossed the border of Switzerland. After being disarmed, the 87.000 numb and starving soldiers were interned at many different places. A small number of them died.
