From 1 July to 22 July 1944, the United Nations Monetary and Financial Conference, commonly known as Bretton Woods conference, was held in this hotel. There were 730 delegates from all 44 Allied nations. The conference was a gathering to regulate the international monetary and financial order after the conclusion of the Second World War. Amongst others, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) was set up.

The room where the conference took place, is maintained as a small museum.
