Union Captain James Totten's Battery F, 2nd U.S. Artillery, on this location on Bloody Hill, was involved in the Battle of Wilson's Creek.
The Battle of Wilson's Creek took place on 10 August 1861. The battle resulted in a Confederate victory. On the Union side, 258 men were killed, 873 wounded and 186 missing/captured. On the Confederate side, 279 men were killed and 951 wounded.
