Napoleon's Platano

This Plane Tree (Platano) was planted by Napoleon to honor the nearly 2,000 dead soldiers and the 10,000 wounded (of which 7,000 would died later because of serious injuries and infections that time medicine could not cure) of the Battle at Marengo.
This battle was fought on 14 June 1800, during the Second Coalition War, between French and Austrian troops. The battle was narrowly won by the French of Napoleon Bonaparte.
