Statue of Andreas Hofer

This Memorial commemorates Andreas Hofer (1767-1810), a Tyrolean national hero and freedom fighter. In 1809 during the Tyrolean freedom fight on three occasions Hofer led the Tyroleans to a victory over the French troops of Napoleon Bonaparte. He was later captured by the French and executed on 20 February 1810.
The memorial also commemorates the battles fought on the Bergisel during the Tyrolean freedom fight.
