Memorial Tyrolean Freedom Fighters Matrei in Osttirol

This memorial commemorates the residents of Matrei in Osttirol who were involved in the Tyrolean Freedom Fight against the French in 1809. Johann Panzl and Anton Wallner organised the fights in Pinzgau and Pongau. They were able to flee to Vienna and the French executed Franz Obersamer and Johann Weber instead of them.
