This memorial (Monumento Batalla Palo Incado) commemorates the Battle of Palo Hincado, which took place on 7 November 1808 near El Seibo. A force of 2,000 Spanish Dominican and Puerto Rican troops defeated a force of 600 troops of the French Army, which occupied the island (then named Santo Domingo).
