Maison de l'Empereur

After his defeat at Waterloo, Napoleon Bonaparte spent his last days in France in this house, from 12 to 15 July 1815. He tried to get through the British naval blockade to flee to America. When he realized that this would not work, he wrote a letter to the British Regent. This was followed by his surrender to HMS Bellerophon, which transferred him to Plymouth, from where he was transferred to Saint Helena.
Nowadays the house is a museum: Musée Napoléon.
