Commemorative Plate Aerial Combat Haaltert

This memorial plaque has been hanging at the entrance of the Haaltert cemetery since 2005.
In September 2022, the granite slab "Airfight and crash of the ME-262" was removed from the entrance wall of the cemetery with the permission of the local government and was given a new location in the Diepeweg in Haaltert.
This happened as a result of new information from an eyewitness about the exact location of the crash near the Kruiskouter.

On August 28, 1944, the German jet plane Messerschmitt Me 262 crashed there.
The plane was attacked by American Thunderbolt fighters.
German pilot Ronny Lauer (sole occupant) survived the crash.
