The Homestead Hotel

This hotel was one of the four remote and luxury hotels leased in 1941 and 1942 by the US Government to house enemy diplomats and their families until they could be exchanged for American diplomats and their families who were being held in enemy hands.
From 18 May to 3 June 1943, there was a congress of 45 nations to discuss agriculture issues and to propose the creation of the United Nations food organization. A plaque in the hotel comemorates this meeting.
