born June 20, 1924 in Giethoorn
died July 13, 1944 in Amersfoort

Henri Dijksma,
born April 29, 1923 in Giethoorn
died on April 7, 1944 in Arnsberg, Germany

Also buried here:
Hendrik Jan Bakker, journalist and member of the Resistance
born August 12, 1914 in Giethoorn
died May 15, 1994 in Amsterdam

Hendrik Jan Bakker was the youngest son of a very poor farming family from Giethoorn. After completing HBS he worked for a while as a journalist for the Nieuwsblad van het Noorden. When World War II reached the Netherlands in 1940 and brought the Gleichschaltung of the press, he quit his job: he did not want to work for a muzzled newspaper.
