Westwall - Anti-tank Obstacle

A single mobile anti-tank obstacle stands on the side of the road in Eisenhüttenweg, just south of the turnoff from the B258 road, Monschauer Strasse. This type of obstacle would have been used to filter traffic arriving from Belgium on the way to Walheim. The actual border is a kilometer further down this road.

It is part of the Westwall or Siegfried Line fortifications - this section west and south of Aachen is called the Scharnhorst line. This area is the start of the 'Stolberg Corridor' which was the main direction of advance in this area by the US VII Corps. The assault started here by the US 3rd Armoured division on 13 September 1944.
