Commonwealth War Grave Roman Catholic Cemetery Zevenaar

The Roman Catholic Cemetery of Zevenaar contains one Commonwealth burial. This casualty is pilot Royce Allen Johns of the 439 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force. On October 5th 1944 at 14.23, Royce flew with his Typhoon against the churhtower of the H.Andreaskerk in Zevenaar after he was shot down by a German Flak anti aircraft gun. He was buried on this local cemetery by local people. From the Typhoon of R.A. Johns a scalemodel is made, this scalemodel can be seen on the pictures. The model is made due the attacks by Johns and the 439 Squadron on the river Orne near Caen (France) in July 1944.
