Burial mound of the Slaughtered Ascq

This burial mound is three-part and consists of:
A monument erected between 1947 and 1955 near the execution place honors the 86 civilians executed in reprisal by soldiers of the 12th SS Hitlerjugend Division following an attack on the railway, in which their train derailed without serious consequences. Eleven were also wounded by gunfire, and seven survived the reprisal thanks to the intervention of German officers.
The inscription reads:
"In memory of those who died an unjust death, a man far from your heart and your laws of cruelty."

At the front is a small monument with the inscription: “Tribute to the Belgian Railways”

A berm has been placed along the railway line at the scene of the attack with the following inscription: "This earth, soaked with their blood, deserves your respect, pilgrim or passerby."

Finally, a red table has been placed with the following inscription:
"And on Palm Sunday 1944, violence and mass murders took place here among peaceful young people and old men. Pilgrim or passerby, this place, soaked with their blood, deserves your respect. Believer, he asks for your prayers. For everyone, she makes Peace our Duty."
