Memorial Paulis Division

This monument was erected on September 14th 1974. It was made by the sculptors Emil Vitroel and Ion Munteanu and the architect Cristea Milos. It is dedicated to the heroes from the Paulis Division.

This division defended the Mures pass in bloody fightings in September 1944. It was accounted for that 2.800 Romanian soldiers defended this position against 20.000 German and Hungarian troops. The losses were 380 Romanian against over 3000 enemy casualties. Although highly outnumbered the Romanians were victorious and the Paulis Division was cited by day order no. 15/ 14th of November 1944 of the Minister of War.

Two huge blades form the monument ans represent the two wings of Victory and Courage. In front of this a bronze statue of a Romanian soldier is placed. On a plate a tekst has been placed in Romanian stating: "To the heroes of Paulis. 1944".
