This memorial was erected to dedicated the preservation of Barcy in World War I. The city was occupied by the Germans on 4 September 1914.
This monument marks the breaking point of the German invasion, repelled by French troops.
This is a tribute to the wish expressed by the bishop on 8 September 1914 in Meaux Cathedral to build a monument of gratitude, should they be victorious.
Inscriptions on the monument:
SEPTEMBER 1914
TO OUR LADY OF THE MARNE
WISH OF SG MGR EMMANUEL MARBEAU BISHOP OF MEAUX
The bishop would later choose the inscription himself:
YOU WILL NOT GO ANY FURTHER
This statue stands in the middle of the battlefield.
To compensate for the religious aspect, a stele was unveiled right next to it in 2007
"In memory of all the fighters of the 1st Battle of the Marne"
