Skaugum Royal Manor

Skaugum is now the official residence of the Norwegian Crown Prince Haakon, but during the German occupation it was inhabited by the notorious Reichskommissar für Norwegen Josef Terboven.

When news arrived on 7 May 1945 that Germany would surrender the following day, SS chief Wilhelm Rediess shot himself in the head, and Terboven also decided to commit suicide. Fifty kilograms of explosives were placed in a nearby bunker, which Terboven detonated on 8 May after Redless' body had also been transferred to the bunker. A day later, a work crew attempted to burn the remains of the bunker, but in the end, it was still possible to identify both bodies.
