Itter Castle

This castle was used as SS-prison and subsequently sub camp of KZ Dachau from 1943 to 1945. It was the site of heavy fighting between Waffen-SS soldiers and elements of the U.S. 23rd Tank Battalion supported by a Wehrmacht anti-SS force, Austrian resistance fighters and armed camp inmates on 5 May 1945.
