Remains Uzurano Air Base

This airfield was constructed during the Second World War for the Imperial Air Force Corps stationed in Himeji and was also used as training camp for suicide pilots. During the war, it housed 486 Kawanishi N1K fighter planes.

It was attacked several times by the U.S.A.F because of its function and a ammunition plant nearby. On 31 March 1945, A fighter plane crashed due to engine problems on a nearby train station during a flight test. 11 people were killed and a further 104 were wounded. The Uzurano air base was abandoned after the war.

The air base today:
Many of the original buildings survived the time, like the hangar and shelters. The runway is also still in prettty goed shape.
