Invasion Beach Umboi Island
About 500 men of the Japanese 51st Reconnaissance Regiment occupied Umboi in 1943, but already withdrew to Cape Bushing in December later that year. USM Company B, 1st Marine Division landed here on 12 February 1944 and discovered that the island was evacuated.
