On 20 April 1945, a group of girls waited for the Canadian liberators at the Buikema butcher shop. Suddenly a mortar impact came from Borkum. Five young girls between the ages of 10 and 14 died. Berend Werkman, also in hiding, was also killed.
For the former butcher shop there are 6 memorial stones for the victims.
