Memorial Operation Dynamo

The text on the memorial is:
"To commemorate the safe return to these shore of 228,226 men of the British Expeditionary Force, together with 120,000 French and Belgians from the beaches of Dunkerque by an armada of naval and civilian vessels of all types and sizes during "Operation Dynamo" - 26 May to 4 June 1940"

The memorial which is situated next to the Channel Dash Memorial and the Maritime Museum, was unveiled by Dame Vera Lynn on 5th June 2000.

On the 20th May 2025, to celebrate the 85th anniversary of the 'Little Ships' a ceremony was held with an additional plaque being unveiled on the memorial by Prince Michael of Kent in front of almost 70 of the 'Little Ships'.
"In commemoration of those who went across the seas in
the dark days of 1940 and took part in the gallant
rescue of British Expeditionary and Allied Forces
from the beaches of Dunkirk. 39,848 mem were brought
back to Ramsgate Harbour in numerous small
vessels, pleasure craft and lifeboats."
