GHQ-line Bunker Semington

On this spot there there is a bunker of the GHQ Line Blue.

The village of Semington sits on the GHQ Line Blue (GHQ=General Headquarters Line). This was a defensive stop line constructed to protect Britain in the event of invasion during the Second World War. The Blue Line followed the Kennet and Avon canal.

There are pillboxes, anti tank cylinders and the remains of a vertical rail defences. Semington was part of an anti-tank line during the Second World War. It was meant to be a tank killing ground if the Germans had invaded. There are several remaining defences still in situ there.
