HMP Dartmoor - Princetown Prison

This prison (Dartmoor Prison) was constructed between 1806 and 1809 to hold prisoners of the Coalition Wars. Tt was later used to hold American prisoners from the War of 1812. It was then closed only to reopen in 1851 as a civilian prison.
In total, over 1400 French prisoners and 218 Americans died while imprisoned in Dartmoor in what was called the "war prison". They were buried somewhere beyond the prison walls.
