Memorial Fort Sinquefield

Fort Sinquefield was located here.
During the Creek War, which coincided with the War of 1812 (the Indians were armed by the British) on 1 September 1813, two families, of Ransom Kimbell and Abner James, were attacked by Red Stick Indians. Twelve women and children were murdered and scalped, which has become known as the Kimbell-James Massacre. The same day, another group outside the fort was also attacked with casualties on both sides. After this, Fort Sinquefield was abandoned and the residents left for Fort Madison.
