Information Sign Fort Stoddert

This information panel, part of the Mount Vernon Historical Trail, provides information about Fort Stoddert.
This fort was originally built in 1799. During the Creek Indian War, General Ferdinand L. Claiborne posted his troops and headquarters to the fort and distributed troops to the many settler forts in the area. He moved his headquarters in 1814 and Fort Stoddard was abandoned.
