Monument And Graves Lithuanian War Of Independence Širvintos

A monument to the Lithuanian War of Independence (or Polish-Lithuanian War) in 1919-1920 and the subsequent conflict over Vilnius and some 1920 soldier graves.

The monument is located on the Vilniaus gatve in Širvintos in a small park next to the church. It is a statue of "mother Lithuania" with a dying young man in front of her. On the sides of the monuments is the text in Lithuanian "for the war heroes 1919-1922 who fell near Širvintos" and "grateful compatriots 1927 VIII 15". The latter date is the date of the monument's founding.

If you continue walking, behind the church is the general cemetery where about 20-30 known and unknown Lithuanian and Polish soldiers who died here in 1920 rest. Seen from the church, the graves are in the back left, but still in front of the chapel. When entering via the P. Cvirkos gatve, the graves are on the 2nd or 3rd row to the left of the entrance.
