Memorial Stone Pieter-Jozef Dergent Aarschot

Memorial stone of pastor Pieter-Jozef Dergent, murdered by the Germans on August 27, 1914.

Memories of Priest Dergent can be found in many places in Aarschot. This memorial stone was inaugurated in 1960 at the beginning of a renovated avenue that was constructed in 1959 and which has also been given the name Pastoor Dergentlaan. The place was not chosen at random. The Blijkershuis stood here for years. It was the place where Priest Dergent was murdered and his body thrown into the Demer.
The text "shot in hatred of justice" is an accusation that elevates the murder to a level of unscrupulous evil against humanity.
