Remembrance Wall Steenberg Erpe-Mere

On 11 November 2015, a memorial wall was unveiled at the municipal administrative center Steenberg with photos of fallen soldiers and former combatants from Erpe-Mere in the First World War.

An estimated 682 boys moved from the 8 villages of Erpe-Mere to the front.
72 of them were killed on the battlefield or died of wounds or disease. Others survived the war in captivity. The survivors returned home: the ex-combatants.
100 years later, the Heemkundige Kring took the initiative to take these boys out of oblivion and give them a face again. The initial 220 photos were later supplemented with 50 new soldiers.
