German War Cemetery Alkiškiai

The cemetery is located in the forest and next to the general cemetery near the church. The site is surrounded by a stone wall of about 1 meter high, from the main entrance to the exit towards the church there is a path with a neat double row of tomb crosses on both sides. Behind it in the less well-maintained part are a few stray grave crosses here and there. In the center of the site is a 4 meter high obelisk.
440 German soldiers and 190 Russian soldiers (all unknown) are buried here. Most of these dead fell in June 1915 during fighting for the city of Siauliai. 296 concrete grave crosses have been preserved. There is also a different grave of the German Jewish soldier Walter Seligsohn, his grave has a different cross and is protected by an iron decorative gate.

Accessibility: on the main road (156) there is a sign pointing to the cemetery. 100 meters of dirt road leads to a small parking lot in front of the entrance to the war cemetery. Alternative entrance: via the general cemetery around the church.
