Memorial Executed Citizens Of Roermond

Monument for the executed citizen of Roermond.
This memorial was erected in memory of the execution of thirteen residents of Roermond and a Polish prisoner of war on December 26 and 27, 1944 at the Luzenkamp in the German Elmpterwald.

The 14 men were executed to reinforce the call that all boys and men aged sixteen to sixty from Roermond should have reported before December 18, 1944 to be employed in Germany. After the executions were announced, more than 2,700 people from Roermond reported who left on foot for Germany on December 30, 1944 to eventually be employed in the German war industry.
