Monument Slovenian Partisans

Slovenian patriots hanged on 12 January 1945. Members of the German occupying army counted the collected prisoners from the Celje, Trbovlje and Maribor prisons on 12 February 1945, just like every morning. That day, however, was different, as they chose the worst punishment for 100 prisoners, namely death by hanging.

A cruel story took place in Stranice in the Graben gorge, where in retaliation for the killing of a high-ranking German officer by partisans in Graben shortly before, German soldiers hung 100 Slovenian patriots on trees along the road.

Graben was later renamed Spodnje.
